Southampton have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.
According to reports, the former England international has been told that he can leave the Blues when the January window opens in a couple of months.
Cahill has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, finding game time hard to come by under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Manchester United are one of the many teams to be linked with Chelsea’s club captain, while West Ham, Southampton and Championship duo Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday have also been credited with an interest.
Cahill was recently confirmed as the club captain for the season, which may hint that he could see out the season with the Blues.
He has previously suggested he will be considering his future in January, with Sarri continuing to prefer a partnership of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger at the back for Chelsea.
