Hughes demands more aggression from his players

Southampton boss Mark Hughes has demanded his players to be more aggressive after they were thrashed 6-1 by Manchester City on Sunday.

As reported on the Daily Mail, the Saints are only two points away from the relegation zone and need to start getting positive results quickly.

Hughes wants more from his players after the embarrassing loss, which could have been a lot more if City finished all their chances.

Some poor defensive errors cost the Saints dearly at the Etihad Stadium and Hughes wants more desire from his squad. He said:

We were more than a little bit too passive. When you have got the likes of David Silva and Raheem Sterling winning headers in your box, that can’t happen.

I am thinking we need to be more aggressive and determined in our defensive play. That was the frustration for me because we talked a lot about what we were trying to do and that game plan went out of the window.

The first 10-15 minutes you have to be strong enough, that is the disappointment. We were never going to get anything out of it because of the opening period. We need to learn from the opening period, but this game is not going to define our season.

The Saints host Watford in their next league match in what is a must-win game for Hughes as the pressure continues to build surrounding his job.
