Rangers are said to be preparing an offer to sign Southampton midfielder Steven Davis on loan with an option to buy.
According to a report from the Belfast Telegraph, the Scottish side are working on a move to re-sign the player during the January window.
Davis was heavily linked with a return to Rangers over the summer, but Southampton refused to sell.
The player has since found game time hard to come by in the Premier League, falling out of favour under Mark Hughes.

Rangers have remained keen and are hopeful that they will be able to lure him back to the club in January.
Steven Gerrard has been very particular in his transfer business since taking over at the Scottish club, mixing experienced players with young exciting prospects.
Davis himself has never hidden his intention to return to Rangers, making the deal sound like a matter of when and not if.
