Southampton have missed out on the chance to sign promising French youngster Elye Wahi, according to reports.
The French prospect was heavily linked with a move to Southampton and Montpellier, with the forward very highly thought of in France.
The Saints had been hoping to act quickly and snap up his services as one for the future, but they appear to have missed out.
The French side’s head of youth development Francis de Taddeo explained to Actufoot, as cited on Sport Witness, that a move to join the Premier League was not an option, with the player now expected to link up with Montpellier.
We were thinking it would be more of a conciliation, but Montfermeil were saying he couldn’t sign with Montpellier as there was already a deal with Southampton.
Let me remind you that a deal with a foreign club for a player who’s a minor is reprehensible. In fact, Elye never set foot in Montfermeil, he never even trained there.
Over the years Southampton have become known for their well-worked acedemy and transfer recruitment, scouring Europe for some of the best young players.
However, Wahi seems like one that they will miss out on and remains a name to keep an eye out for in the future.
