Southampton progressed through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Everton 4-3 on penalties at Goodison Park.
The match finished 1-1 in normal time after Theo Walcott cancelled out Danny Ings’ first half strike.
It was a much needed victory for the Saints after they their last two matches in the Premier League at Liverpool and Wolves, respectively.
Mark Hughes named a strong team for the game, but he did still make six changes with the likes of Maya Yoshida and Manolo Gabbiadini given an opportunity to impress.
It was an even contest throughout, but it’s one which the Saints will feel that they deserved to win as they caused a number of problems to the Toffees back line.
They will now go onto face Leicester City away in round four in three weeks’ time.
