Southampton manager Mark Hughes has been discussing the influence of Nathan Redmond this season, hailing the winger’s recent form as “excellent”.
It’s been a difficult time at Southampton for Redmond following his move from Norwich City in 2016. He has struggled with inconsistency since his arrival at the club but appears to have discovered some confidence under Hughes.
As quoted by the club’s official website, the Southampton manager praised Redmond’s desire to improve and outlined his importance to the work that is ongoing at St Mary’s.
He’s been excellent, Nathan. He’s very receptive, he wants to progress his career, he wants to be the best version of himself that he can be, and he’s put in extra work. He put in extra work over the summer, he’s come in, he wants feedback, he wants to understand what he needs to do to get better, so that’s what you want.

He’s fully engaged in what he’s doing here, and I just sense he’s in a good place at the moment and we’ll reap the benefits of that.
Redmond has started in each of Saints’ three Premier League fixtures so far this season and came on against Brighton and Hove Albion in the recent Carabao Cup second round fixture.
The 24-year-old made an immediate impact as he provided fellow substitute Charlie Austin with a pinpoint cross, helping Saints to progress through to the third round of the competition.
Everybody’s seen the ability that he’s got. Maybe he just lost his way in terms of how he could be effective for the team in the best way, and we’re just trying to give him the confidence that he needs as a player and a person because all players play better with confidence.
Redmond will hope to be influential once again this weekend when Southampton travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
