Southampton have announced the signing of midfielder Alexandre Jankewitz from Swiss side Servette FC. The youngster had been tipped to move to Tottenham, but Saints have pipped their fellow Premier League rivals in order to sign the teenager.
As reported on the official Southampton website, the 16-year-old will, subject to international clearance, join the clubb’s academy set-up, where he’ll train with both the Under-18s and Under-23s.
Jankewitz was one of the standout young players at the 2018 UEFA European Championships as he featured for Switzerland’s Under-17s and Southampton have done well to fend off interest from elsewhere in order to sign the midfielder.
The teenager will join Saints on an initial scholarship as he can not sign a professional deal until he is 18 years old.
Academy Manager Matt Hale said that Jankewitz had been on the club’s radar for a long time and as such, he and his staff were delighted to get him to the South Coast.
