Danny Ings was happy to have made his Southampton debut against Burnley on Sunday.
The forward joined the Saints on an initial season-long loan deal only on Thursday night but was thrown in at the deep end by Mark Hughes, as he made his first appearance for his hometown club against the Clarets.
Ings was brought on alongside Mohamed Elyounoussi early in the second-half and influenced proceedings, adding an extra edge to Southampton’s attacking play.
The 26-year-old striker also had a strong penalty appeal turned down in the closing stages of the match, as Ben Mee appeared to make contact with Ings in the box.

Nevertheless, Ings was content with the way his first outing as a Southampton player and told the club’s official website of his desire to continue adjusting to the way his new side play.
At the moment, I’m getting used to the way the team play – I wanted to come on and get a feel for the football they play. We play good football here and there are some really, really good players. It’s a pleasure to work with them.
There were a lot of spaces coming deep, so I drifted into those pockets, got on the ball and tried to play people in. I want to show people it’s not all about running in behind for me – I can come short and play too.
Ings’ move to Southampton will be made permanent next summer, with the player set to pen a three-year contract at the club.
I’m going to build on that performance and do the best I can for the club.
