Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has signed a new four-year contract with the club, the Daily Echo reports.
McCarthy replaced Fraser Forster as Southampton’s first choice keeper last December and has since put in a number of key performances which helped the Saints maintain their Premier League status for another season.
McCarthy joined the Saints from Crystal Palace back in 2016 and had just one year left on his deal at St Mary’s.

Tottenham had been showing an interest in the keeper and Southampton have acted quickly to tie McCarthy to the club with a bumper new contract to match his number one status.
McCarthy is now under contract at St Mary’s until 2022 and has spoken on his delight at signing a new contract.
I’m massively pleased. I had one year left on my current deal and obviously I’m over the moon to sign a new four-year deal.
I think the club is going in the right direction. With the way we finished the season, we can take that into this one and hopefully finish a lot higher up the table.
Everyone is ready to go.
