Stuart Armstrong has been explaining why he opted to join Southampton from Celtic this summer.
The Scottish international was unveiled by Saints on Tuesday after they had agreed a deal worth £7m with Celtic. Armstrong pens a four-year deal at St Mary’s and is therefore contracted to the club until the summer of 2022.
Armstrong was courted by numerous clubs in the Premier League but Saints have secured his services ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
In his first ever interview with Saints’ official club website, Armstrong discussed his decision to join Mark Hughes’ side, explaining that he feels as though the club is a ‘really good fit’ for him.

Southampton seems a really good fit for me. Watching from afar, I really enjoy the attractive football that they play and I’m very happy to be here. Every season, I put demands on myself to create and score goals. I hope going forwards from here that it will be the same this term at St Mary’s.
Armstrong endured a frustrating campaign with Celtic last term and struggled due to numerous injury woes. He’ll be hoping to hit the ground running at St Mary’s, though, as he prepares for life in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old becomes Saints’ first signing of the summer, with plans in place to add further quality to the options at Mark Hughes’ disposal.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and I’m very excited to get started. It’s a four-year contract; there will be a lot to learn and I want to hit the ground running.
