Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has agreed to join Southampton this summer after holding talks with Mark Hughes, according to claims from the Mirror.
The Scotland international is looking likely to be Saints’ first arrival of the summer transfer window as Hughes hopes to see his squad significantly improved ahead of next season.
Details of Southampton’s proposed move for Armstrong emerged on Friday night, as it was revealed by various outlets that Saints had agreed a fee worth £7 million with Celtic.
Armstrong was set to enter his final year under contract with the Hoops and it seems that Brendan Rodgers’ side have opted to cash in on the player.

The 26-year-old was left frustrated throughout last season as he failed to develop consistency due to a number of niggling injury issues throughout the campaign.
In the 2016/17 season, though, Armstrong found the net on 17 occasions in all competitions and also chipped in with seven assists.
Southampton are yet to unveil the player officially but the Mirror believe that a deal is all but confirmed, with Armstrong having allegedly agreed to make the switch to the South Coast.
