Southampton are likely to confirm that Mark Hughes has signed a contract to become the club’s new permanent manager next week, according to the Telegraph.
The Welshman was appointed on an interim basis by the club in early March, with only eight Premier League games remaining.
Hughes was tasked with keeping the Saints in the Premier League ahead of next season and duly delivered, leading them to a 17th-place finish with three points separating them from relegated Swansea City.

It’s believed by the Telegraph that minor details are being ironed out and monitored by the lawyers involved in the negotiations, with both Hughes and Saints keen to conclude a deal swiftly.
Hughes has previously expressed his desire to remain Saints boss following a successful spell, and it appears as though the club reciprocate this attitude.
The report from the Telegraph also indicates that Hughes will put pen to paper on a three-year contract at St Mary’s, which is set to keep him on the South Coast until the summer of 2021.
