Southampton sacked first team boss Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday evening and pundit Chris Sutton has slammed the Southampton board for the timing of his dismissal.
Saints appointed Mark Hughes yesterday, with the club placed 17th in the Premier League, just one point away from the drop zone and facing a tough schedule with just eight games left.
Hughes played for the club many years ago and his knowledge of the league is what attracted the Saints board to bringing him to St Mary’s.
Hughes was actually sacked by Stoke City in January but the Potters currently lie in 19th position in the table, one point behind the Saints. The new man will have a say on which of the two sides will go down this season as he aims to keep Saints afloat.

Former Premier League player and pundit Chris Sutton, as quoted by HITC, has had his say on the Saints’ sacking of Pellegrino and the timing of the matter:
[The sacking] should have been done weeks ago, months ago. Things weren’t working out for Pellegrino. If they go down, Southampton, it will be the board’s fault because they have waited for too long to make the change.
He was hardly the most inspirational bloke out there as a manager and I think it’s really poor planning that Southampton have waited this long.
