Southampton defender Jack Stephens feels that his side are well aware of the dangers regarding their current situation near the bottom of the Premier League, as reported by the Daily Echo.
Saints currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League, just out of the bottom three by one point with nine games remaining of the season.
Southampton make the long trip to Newcastle United this weekend in what is their most important game of the season – a match in which simply nothing other than a win will do.

Stephens spoke about the situation ahead of his side’s vital game against Newcastle on Saturday.
We know how tough this league is and we know how good the teams are. We saw that Stoke aren’t just going to roll over for us and that’s the same going into next week and the rest of the games this season.
Every team is fighting for a different reason.
Stephens has played a lot of football in the first team this year, improving game on game and even proving to be a constant threat in the other box. He will undoubtedly play a key role if the club are to avoid the drop this season.

Whilst Saints haven’t been losing too many games of late, they have only managed one win in their past 16 matches in the Premier League which is a real cause for concern..
Stephens added:
There’s no gap. It’s one win and we can start to turn it around. That’s the good thing, one win and we can fire up four or five places. We’ve just got to keep going. I know we keep saying it but we have to. We’ve got to dig in and keep going.
Saints have drawn a league-high 13 games this season, a stat which they must improve on if they are to remain in the top flight.
