Pep Guardiola reportedly sees Virgil van Dijk as his top priority in the January transfer window, as he looks for another centre back to add to his team, according to The Telegraph.
Van Dijk has been brilliant for Southampton since he joined from Celtic in 2015 and he was linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, which looked likely to happen but the Saints were reluctant to sell and reported the Reds for an illegal approach for the defender.
The Dutchman has played every Premier League minute since the 1-0 loss to Manchester United in September, and has been impressive in defence.
So far this season, he has also played every minute for the Netherlands national team, highlighting his importance.

Manchester City have options at the back with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones all at their disposal.
However, Stones is currently injured, as is Kompany, and so there is a need for another centre-half, with the Citizens being linked with Jonny Evans and Inigo Martinez, in addition to the Dutchman.
It is reported that Southampton value the Dutchman at approximately £70 million, meaning he would become the world’s most expensive defender if he were to go to Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea who also are keen on him.
