Yoshida: We have to be positive

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has insisted that the club need to be positive if they are to pull themselves out of their current rut.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Japan international Yoshida admitted that Saints are in a bad spell at the moment but called for positivity as they enter yet another testing period of fixtures.

Don’t bring any negativity, stay positive and help each other before we start pointing at each other – that’s the way. It’s a difficult situation which we haven’t had in the last couple of years. It’s like life, life isn’t always a good time. At this time we need to show our character and we have to stand up.

Saints welcome Huddersfield Town to St Mary’s on Saturday, before they travel to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the space of only four days.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side are currently only three points off the bottom three, which has proven to be a worrying statistic for the Southampton faithful, who are growing increasingly worried.

Yoshida believes it’s the finer details that are costing the team, though, and he thinks that once these errors are eradicated they will be able to progress.

At Chelsea it was small details – one free kick. Against Arsenal – Giroud. Burnley – it was last minute as well. It’s all the small details but it costs a lot. If we put an extra 10 per cent on each other then I think we will get good results – that I believe.

The experienced defender has been featuring a lot under Pellegrino this season and captained Saints in their recent defeat against Chelsea.
