Southampton leading race for Dani Garcia

Southampton are reportedly leading the chase to sign the SD Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia, according to The Mirror.

The 27-year-old has been essential for Eibar this season, featuring in 13 of their 17 domestic competitive games this season, including featuring for the majority of a league match at the Nou Camp against FC Barcelona.

He is no stranger to a booking in La Liga, having been shown a yellow card in seven of his last ten games for Eibar.

His current contract runs out in the summer and has rejected the opportunity to extend his stay there, which has alerted other clubs to his situation, as he is wanted by many clubs, including Southampton.

Eibar sit currently just three points off the European spots in La Liga with fifteen games gone in the league, and are looking to improve to push up the leagues, and a crucial part of that group has been Dani Garcia.

Mauricio Pellegrino has reportedly shown interest and wishes to bring him to St. Mary’s Stadium this January or in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Other clubs interested include fellow La Liga clubs Malaga, Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis, all in similar positions to SD Eibar domestically, except for Malaga who find themselves in the relegation zone.

However, it is reported that Garcia wishes to move abroad and more specifically to the Premier League, and as no other clubs in England are showing interest, it looks like Southampton are his preferred destination.
