Southampton were impressive on Sunday afternoon as they eased to a 4-1 win against a hapless Everton side.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s men were in severe need of a victory and duly delivered at St Mary’s, brushing aside the Toffees in what was a more than comprehensive win.
Dusan Tadic opened the scoring as he poked past Jordan Pickford, before Gylfi Sigurdsson struck from range to level things heading into the break.
Saints turned in an inspired second-half display, though, and Charlie Austin scored a brace of headers to put daylight between the hosts and David Unsworth’s men.
Steven Davis added insult to injury in the closing stages with a well-taken drive from distance, making it 4-1 to Southampton.
It goes without saying that it was a highly anticipated game and one that held immense importance. Saints were able to comfortably win, making for a much more relaxed upcoming week.
