Newcastle United have reportedly made a enquiry to Southampton about the possibility of taking Matt Targett on loan.

Newcastle are in the market for a left-back after Paul Dummett’s injury and they reportedly see Targett as a possible option for them.

The 21-year-old is clearly behind Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen in the pecking order at St Mary’s so it could be beneficial for him to go and get some regular Premier League game time under Rafa Benitez.
At this time there is no word on whether Southampton have told Newcastle that the player is available but it would not be a huge shock to see the England U21 international leaving on a temporary basis before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.
