Southampton are set to host Wolverhampton Wanders at St Mary’s in a competitive fixture for the first time since the 15th of November 2008.
The sides have since faced each other once in a pre-season friendly in the build up to the 2012/13 season.
However, the last time the two sides met competitively at St Mary’s was back in 2008 in the Championship. The visitors ran out as winners on the day as Saints ended up losing 2-1 in a season that was troubled by financial issues and relegation to League One.

The win for the visitors was their first ever at St Mary’s and their first win on the South Coast since 1980.
Within the first 17 minutes, the visitors, who were top of the Championship at the time and coming off the back of four straight wins, raced into a two goal lead thanks to Chris Iwelumo and David Jones.
Southampton took just four minutes to register their reply when Alex Pearce headed in from an Adam Lallana corner.
Just two minutes before the half time break, Jason Euell was sent off for a challenge on Richard Stearman.

The second half saw Saints push for an equaliser but unfortunately it didn’t come and Wolves made it five wins in a row, extending their lead at the top of the Championship table.
Since this fixture Wolves have been up to the Premier League for two seasons, before then falling down to League One with a double relegation. Whereas, Southampton dropped down to League One, suffered administration, came close to extinction and fought their way back to becoming one of the best teams in the Premier League following seven successive years of progression in league position before last season.
