Opposition Dangerman: West Ham (H)

Southampton will face West Ham United in their next Premier League fixture, as Mauricio Pellegrino’s side look to earn their first victory of the season.

Saints, who drew against Swansea in the Premier League curtain raiser, supplied a dominant performance in front of their home crowd, but lacked the cutting edge and were unable to find the net.

West Ham opened their 2017/18 account with a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford. A Paul Pogba strike, Anthony Martial finish and Romelu Lukaku brace put the Hammers to the sword, and they will be looking to avenge from the defeat and put things right as they visit St Mary’s on Saturday.

But who should Saints be most wary of if they are to get the desired victory?

Javier Hernandez.

Slaven Bilic has pulled off a brilliant piece of business by bringing ‘Chicharito’ into his ranks. Signed for £16 million, Hernandez was Bayer Leverkusen’s prized asset last season and during his two years at the Bundesliga club, the Mexican international bagged 28 goals in 54 appearances.

His West Ham career didn’t quite get off to the best start, as former club Manchester United sweeped the Hammers aside as they went top of the Premier League.

Hernandez has undoubted quality, and has already proven himslef as a Premier League goalscorer during his stint at Old Trafford between 2010-2015. His time at United seemed quite unfair, as he spent quite a bit of the time on the bench. Although when he did feature in United colours, he had big impacts on games.

Mauricio Pellegrino will need to be wary of Hernandez, as against a player with that calibre and quality, one defensive error could cost us.
