Spanish La Liga side Valencia have opened talks with Atletico Madrid over Southampton target Luciano Vietto, according to a report on Football Espana.
The striker is reportedly a target for the Saints but as it stand, talks of a possible move to St Mary’s have not resulted in any significant progress and Valencia have seen an opportunity to make a move.
Vietto was loaned out to Sevilla last season and although the 23-year-old has re-joined Diego Simeone’s side, the manager does not have him in his plans at the club this season.

The Argentine striker’s representatives are scheduled to meet with Valencia again to discuss a possible transfer.
The striker had one full season with Atletico but failed to impress after only scoring one goal for the club, which meant he fell down the pecking order to Antoine Griezmann, Fernando Torres and Kevin Gameiro.
Southampton have been looking to bolster their attack this summer after selling Jay Rodriguez to fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion and are still keeping an eye on Vietto but face getting gazumped by Valencia.
