We’re already over two weeks into the summer transfer window, and we have decided to look at the best ever summer signings for The Saints in the club’s 132-year history.
We have seen some magnificent players come and go on the South Coast, both at The Dell and at St Mary’s.
Throughout the years Saints have always largely been between the two top divisions of English football and in modern times have cemented themselves as one of the top eight teams in the country, with four consecutive finishes in the top eight of the Premier League.
Southampton have also represented English football on the European stage, competing in the Europa League in the last two seasons, in the qualification rounds and the group stages respectively.
Saints only once lifted a major trophy – that famous day at Wembley in 1976. However in recent times, Southampton have reached three cup finals in the last 14 years. These entailed winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back in 2010, losing the FA Cup final back in 2003 to Arsenal and losing the EFL Cup final in the just gone season to Manchester United.
