With the 2017/18 campaign a few months away, that can only mean one thing: the summer transfer window is almost upon us!
Southampton didn’t quite reach the heights that many fans hoped for on Claude Puel’s debut season with the Saints, as an eighth place finish saw them miss out on Europa League qualification.
Southampton finished the season with just 46 points, which meant that Saints were closer to the relegation zone than Everton, in seventh.
This has been mainly due to the lack of goals scored this season, with just 17 scored at home all season in the Premier League, which is a big disappointment and contrast from last year’s fortress which was St. Mary’s.
Southampton also fell unlucky with injuries, as star players Charlie Austin and Virgil van Dijk had to cut their season way too early.
Saints did well to fill the gaps, with Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida proving to be very reliable defenders during the second half of the season, but now Southampton lack a lot of depth in most places, and the Bundesliga could be the best place to look.
