This Wednesday sees Manchester United travel to the south coast to face Southampton, who will try and get revenge on the Red Devils after their 3-2 win over the Saints in the EFL Cup final.
Manchester United may have their minds on other things, as they have the Europa League final coming up and will be prioritising that. United are still challenging for top five and their fans are getting heavily frustrated at Jose Mourinho’s style of play, along with the amount of draws they have been getting recently.
Southampton fans are also getting on the team’s back due to the poor football of late. With Claude Puel’s future uncertain, the fans are looking elsewhere and Hull City’s Marco Silva looks to be the favourite. Southampton are ‘on the beach’, as you would say, and don’t really have anything to play for.
I believe this game will be fairly tight and with both teams not taking it too seriously, it should be a fairly relaxed evening under the lights at St Mary’s. But Southampton must not get complacent, because we all know what a Manchester United side can do on their day.
Similar to the Chelsea game, I’m not really expecting too much result-wise, but I would like to see a decent attacking performance; we all know the Saints can defend well on their day but the attacking players haven’t been doing the business for Southampton lately.
