Southampton welcome Manchester United to St Mary’s on Wednesday evening in their penultimate game of the campaign.
The Saints will be on the hunt for three points to end the season as “best of the rest” in eighth place. To do so, they will need to defeat one of the top six sides in the division, something they are yet to accomplish in the Premier League this season.
United come into this came on the back of a defeat to second-placed Tottenham, which has meant that fourth place in the Premier League is out of their reach this year – although they will still be hoping for qualification to the Champions League through victory against Ajax in the final of the Europa League.
It’s been a fairly mixed campaign for both teams, with the highlights mainly being their respective journeys through the EFL Cup, where they met in the final back in February. Although tightly contested, United walked away victorious on that day and Claude Puel’s men will be looking to set the record straight.
