Southampton are used to having their managers stripped away from them having seen Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman leave the club in recent seasons, but feelings towards Claude Puel are certainly mixed to say the least.
After last season’s impressive sixth place finish, many aren’t content with Puel’s mediocre Premier League campaign which sees the Saints vying for position in mid-table. While reaching the EFL Cup final was impressive, it’s fair to say Puel has failed to live up to expectations.
The Frenchman’s position as Southampton manager remains very much up in the air as the 2016/17 season enters its final week and Puel is not short of options.
Twitter: Southampton boss Claude Puel has rejected an offer from St Étienne, according to France Bleu https://t.co/9iYI9Guoay (@GFFN)
France Bleu (h/t GFFN) say that Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne approached Puel about becoming their new manager but the Saints boss has turned down the chance to return to French football.
The club could very much decide to sack Puel after a lacklustre season but perhaps that would be a naive move?
