Southampton ended their final away game on a high as they beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at the Riverside.
The Saints put out a very strange starting line-up before the match, as Claude Puel made seven changes to the side that lost out to Arsenal in midweek.
Jay Rodriguez opened the scoring before the end of a very boring first half, as Shane Long crossed the ball into the Englishman, and he fired the ball low past Brad Guzan to give Saints the lead.
Nathan Redmond then came off the bench to double Southampton’s lead not long after the beginning of the second half, and the winger cut inside on his right foot to place the ball into the top corner.
Shane Long had the chance to seal the three points for Saints from the penalty spot, but his shot went well over from 12 yards out.
The hosts got one back late on as Patrick Bamford rose highest from a Viktor Fischer cross to give Middlesbrough a way back into the game, but it was Saints who sealed all three points on their last away game of the season.
After a few impressive performances, it’s time to see who your man of the match was!
