This Saturday sees Southampton travel to the Riverside Stadium to face an already relegated Middlesbrough.
Steve Agnew’s men lost 3-0 to Chelsea on Monday night to relegate them from the Premier League. It was a difficult evening for Middlesbrough, as Chelsea just had way too much quality on the night.
In comparison, Southampton struggled to deal with Arsenal on Wednesday night as they lost 2-0 with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud. Southampton are on the beach and are safe from relegation and can’t mathematically finish higher than eighth.
As aforementioned, Middlesbrough are already relegated and may be in negative mood, with the players probably not as up for it as much as they would’ve been if Boro had a chance of staying up.
It will be be a difficult afternoon at the Riverside, as neither of the two sides have scored many goals this season and have conceded a fair few over the course of the past year.
This game has 0-0 written all over it and will likely be a very boring one to watch. I expect Southampton to have too much quality for Boro to deal with and the visitors could steal a slight 1-0 win, as they did in the reverse fixture earlier on in the season.
