After an impressive defensive performance against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, Southampton will be back in action against another top four hopeful in the shape of Arsenal on Wednesday.
Despite Saints having a fairly poor season at St Mary’s this year, Claude Puel will be hoping for a result against an Arsenal team, against whom they have had mixed fortunes in recent years.
Arsene Wenger’s men have also had an inconsistent campaign which has left them in sixth place; an incredible eighteen points from the top. Their underwhelming performance and style of play has frustrated many of their fans and cast doubt on the Frenchman’s future at the club… sound familiar?
Saints will be looking for the three points to bolster their chances of a top-ten finish while Arsenal will look to capitalise on their recent victory against Manchester United, in a bid to close in on the race for Champions League qualification.
Puel has already hinted that he might look to start rotating his team again during a busy run of fixtures towards the end of the season. There are, however, a number of Southampton and Arsenal players who are top of their respective team-sheets and will likely be amongst the action on Wednesday.
