Southampton put in a great performance defensively to fend off a dominant Liverpool side to gain a valuable point away at Anfield.
The Saints were caused a lot of problems by Liverpool’s attackers, with chances from Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, but Claude Puel’s defence did very well to keep their shape and fend off anything thrown at them.
The second half proved to be a bit more of an even affair, with Saints getting a few chances in the late stages, but the main highlight of the game came from Fraser Forster from the penalty spot, as he prevented James Milner from ending Saints’ run of clean sheets against the Reds.
Jack Stephens’ controversial handball gave a spot kick to Liverpool but Forster went the right way, diving low to his right to keep Saints in the game.
There weren’t many chances for the rest of the game, but Saints did well to hold on until the final whistle to gain a big point for Puel’s season.
