Despite the relative success Manolo Gabbiadini has had since his January arrival, Southampton will undoubtedly need to add another striker in the summer to force themselves back into the Europa League reckoning.
According to German source Bild, the Saints sent scouts to watch Anthony Modeste in action over the weekend for Cologne in the Bundesliga, and the couldn’t have picked a better time to do so.
The towering French striker bagged himself a brace as Cologne secured a 4-3 win over Werder Bremen to bolster their hopes of securing a Europa League qualification place.
Southampton scouts weren’t alone in their viewing of the 29-year-old as West Brom also had eyes on the striker that afternoon.
Modeste has now bagged 25 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances this season with a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing the former Blackburn loanee.
West Ham have also been linked with a move but his reported £33m price tag could put potential suitors off of signing the soon-to-be 30-year-old.
