The Saints were forced to a 0-0 draw with ‘rivals’ Bournemouth on Saturday, despite domination from a tough Cherries side in the second half.
The hosts started well, with Dusan Tadic clipping the post and Jay Rodriguez forcing a fantastic save from former saint Artur Boruc.
However, as the game progressed, Bournemouth grew into the contest and were unlucky not to score, as Benik Afobe missed from close range and Adam Smith hit the post. Bournemouth were then given a suspiciously weak penalty by Jon Moss after Ryan Bertrand ‘pulled’ Ryan Fraser down in the penalty area, but Harry Arter cleared the ball into row ZZ after scuffing the penalty spot.
Saints had their fair share of chances in the second-half too, with Shane Long going agonisingly close after he chipped the ball over Boruc from a tight angle, but neither team could get the ball in the net.
Here are five things that stood out on Saturday.
