With Southampton’s 2016/17 campaign nearing ever closer to its final stages, there have been a fair share of players who have impressed this season and those who seem to just be squad players.
As Southampton are well-known for being a ‘selling’ club, these players who have shone over the last eight months will be targeted by other clubs. However, with a possible takeover, a summer spend is possible and thus those dead-weight players, the ones who haven’t performed of late or simply haven’t settled, will have to make way for new ones.
Despite this brand of selling players that were key to the side, there are also players who need to be sold, mainly due to underwhelming performances or being at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of reaching the first-team.
Saints will definitely have a busy summer of business if a takeover is completed and therefore maintaining key players and removing those who won’t reach the expected standard will be part of the deal if it is to be completed.
So, here are a list of players who I believe should be kept at the club over the summer and those who I feel are free to go.
