Goalkeepers Southampton should look to sign

It’s safe to say that a problem position for Southampton in the 2016/17 campaign so far has been between the posts.

Throughout the course of the season, players have hit different patches of form. Many have had superb spells, whereas others have had treacherous ones. Some have been consistently excellent, and some have been consistently poor.

Sadly, Fraser Forster falls into the very last category. With one of the lowest save-to-shot rates in the Premier League, the England international has been a consistent worry for Saints. Everything from his demeanour and prowess in the box to his wayward kicking and failure to get down to his posts quick enough has been below par.

The goalkeeping predicament for Claude Puel has not been made any easier by the hamstring injury to Alex McCarthy sustained back in October, which has kept him out ever since.

Mouez Hassen was signed on loan from OGC Nice at the end of January but we’re yet to see him even play a minute for Saints at senior level, despite Forster’s poor form.

So, I’d say it’s pretty undeniable that we need more quality behind the defence. I’m not saying Forster is a bad keeper necessarily, but he’s cost us this season and he knows it, Puel knows it, and we all know it.

I’d love to see him get back to his brilliant best but it looks as though he won’t be hitting those heights again for a very long time, and it’s sad to see.

However, there are plenty of top goalkeeping options out there that could prove to be upgrades on the 28-year-old.

So, here are plenty of potential goalkeepers we should consider signing!
