Southampton manager Claude Puel has been praising of the Saints fans, and has insisted that he hopes the club can win the EFL Cup for them.
As reported by the club’s official website, the Frenchman brought up the Southampton faithful in his talk, motioning to the addition of a trophy for the fans’ sake. Puel spoke with knowledge of Southampton’s history in major competitions, commenting on the 1976 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.
Puel wants to see lightning strike twice this weekend to cap off the impressive League Cup run.
Of course it is a great moment for the fans and I hope we can give them pleasure and joy to see this game.I know the last time Southampton can win a cup was in 1976 against Manchester. It’s a long time and it will be fantastic to take a good result.
The boss lauded the Saints fans’ fantastic spirit and attitude in the build up as well. Spirits have been on a high lately, and he encouraged the camp to keep those spirits high heading into this weekend.

Puel also commented on the concentration of the squad. He told the press that it would be foolish to celebrate too early, and that the squad shouldn’t focus on what happens after the match.
I think it’s important and I can understand of course all the good atmosphere around the team and the fans, but it’s important for us to keep focused and with a good concentration about the game and not what happens after the game. We have to keep the good attitude and good spirit.
Morale is high at the moment, but that morale needs to be channelled to determination for Saints’ trip to Wembley.
Puel will be hoping to bring back silverware to the city upon his maiden season with the club.
