From the moment Stuart Taylor joined Southampton, it has become a slight laugh amongst the fans as he joined as a cover keeper so he could boost the goalkeeping options at the club following on from the retirement of Kelvin Davis last summer.
He has been on the bench a few times due to the injury of Alex McCarthy but has never been deemed good enough to play for Southampton and now we have signed Mouez Hassen for cover, that then poses the question again as to why Southampton did sign Stuart Taylor and what exactly he does offer us going forward.
This isn’t me having a go at the man as he is at the end of his career and would be a good last pay day for him regardless if he plays or not.
He seems to be great around the training ground and seems to get on really well with Fraser Forster but in the unforeseen chance that Forster, Harry Lewis and Hassen all got injuries, then we would be left with no choice but to play Taylor in between the sticks, but it would have to be extreme bad luck on our part to lose all three goalkeepers anyway.
So the fans that dream of seeing Stuart Taylor playing for Southampton will never have their dreams fulfilled but at least you can tell the grandkids that you saw Stuart Taylor on a teamsheet a few times.
When the time comes it will be emotional to see Stuart Taylor leave at the end of the season. Thanks for the memories, Stuart.
