Southampton are interested in Uruguay defender Martin Caceres.
According to an exclusive report from leading Italian news outlet Di Marzio, Saints are chasing the signature of the experienced central defender, who is available for a free transfer after his contract with Juventus expired at the end of last season.
Interest has been rife in the versatile defender’s services, but it looked as though AC Milan are leading the chase to sign the 29-year-old.

However, the report from Di Marzio states that Caceres turned away the chance to play at the San Siro for the coming years as he looks to secure a move to England, in the hope of competing in the Premier League for the first time in his career.
Saints are in desperate need for defensive reinforcements and despite not bringing in a central defender in the January transfer window, still have the chance to sign free agents such as Caceres, who could very well be a target for Claude Puel.
