Southampton boss Claude Puel is switching gears to Arsenal. In today’s press conference, he sent a call out to his players to move on from the success at Anfield on Wednesday night and onto the fourth round clash against The Gunners.
After booking one trip to Wembley in the EFL Cup, Puel wants the focus to be solely on Saturday’s match at St Mary’s. The 2-0 score on aggregate against Liverpool was fantastic, but as reported by Southampton’s official website, Puel played down the progress in the competition.
“It was a great performance, but now it’s finished, we have to think about the next game.”
Southampton secured a famous win in the club’s history, but Puel is aiming on progressing towards another historic cup run.
Claude Puel called for concentration as Arsenal come to town. They will look to exploit any uncertainty in the Arsenal squad off the back of the news that manager Arsene Wenger was handed a four-match touchline ban today after his reaction to a late penalty decision in The Gunners’ 2-1 loss against Burnley.
Puel certainly isn’t showing signs of complacency after one cup progression, and he is clearly gearing up the rest of the squad for the upcoming match. Also in his press conference, he spoke about how there was no time to enjoy the moment too much.
“We have no time to take pleasure. We just have to keep good concentration on the next game, because this is a competition we want to continue in.”
