According to an exclusive report from ESPN, Southampton captain Jose Fonte is still very much a Manchester United target.
The Portugal international has been heavily linked with a move to United for some time now and despite a move not going through in the summer transfer window prior to the start of the season, it now looks as though Jose Mourinho is still pondering a chance to sign his compatriot.
However, the report states that Mourinho will only look to pursue his interest in the 32-year-old if his proposed interest in Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez does not come of any substance.
It’s no secret that Mourinho has been looking t bolster his defence and the addition of Fonte would certainly provide a steady and experienced head for them.
The Saints defender has been in good form recently and although the club are unlikely to sell Fonte midway through the season, it’s interesting to see that United are still sniffing around.
