According to a recent report from ESPN, Arsenal have joined Manchester United in their pursuit of experienced Southampton defender Jose Fonte this summer.
The Gunners are currently experiencing some major defensive problems when it comes to depth, experience and quality, so it comes as no surprise to see Arsene Wenger reportedly considering a move for Fonte.
The Southampton captain has come under plenty of speculation regarding his future as of late and the saga could be set to take another twist if Arsenal do act upon their interest in Fonte.

The 32-year-old is currently contracted to Saints until 2018 but has also been offered a new deal, which Saints are confident that he will sign.
However, perhaps the lure of a massive club and Champions League football will prove to hard for the Portuguese central defender to resist this summer as he enters the twilight years of his career.
Despite the new interest from Arsenal, the report from ESPN does claim that Fonte is more keen on the prospect of playing under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United for the coming seasons, with Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes also trying to force through a move away for Fonte.
It looks as though, despite Saints’ desire to keep him, it’ll be an uphill battle to fend off Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.
