Everton are reportedly interested in making a move worth £40 million for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to a report from The Mirror.
The Netherlands international has been in sublime form so far this season, with him standing out in Saints’ team after some excellent, dominating displays at the heart of the Southampton defence.
Toffees’ boss Ronald Koeman was the man that signed the 25-year-old for Southampton in the summer of 2015 on deadline day for a fee of around £13 million and it comes as no real surprise to see him linked with a move for his compatriot this January.

Everton are in need of long-term options to freshen up their ever-aging defence, but it’s highly likely that Southampton won’t sell their prized asset in the mid-season.
It’s going to take a huge fee to sign van Dijk either in January or in the summer, and the general consensus is that Everton will not shy away from forking out plenty of money for the Dutchman.
