Tomorrow, Sunderland will make the 658 mile-round trip to Southampton for the second time this season. This time it is for the EFL Cup round of sixteen and a win for either side would mean a place in the quarter final.
In the last round, Southampton took on Crystal Palace, with young Jake Hesketh stepping up to the side making his first home start after consistently brilliant performances for the Under-23’s and eventually scoring along with Saints’ top scorer this season Charlie Austin.
Last time out, Sunderland had a tough away trip at Loftus Road to take on Championship side Queens Park Rangers. After going 1-0 down in the 60th minute, Paddy McNair scored a brace to secure a 2-1 win.
