Forster to return in time for Arsenal clash

After recently pulling out of the England squad to face Slovakia, it seems that Fraser Forster will be fit to play in Saints’ next game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

This comes after a report written by the Daily Echo this morning, in which they state that the Southampton ‘keeper is expected to shake off a minor injury (to his arm) before the trip to Arsenal.

Having assessed his injury early, the Saints’ medical team reportedly came to the conclusion that the problem would allow Forster to start Southampton’s next Premier League match. It seems his return from the England camp was only due to precautionary measures, despite the fact he was in line to be starting in the World Cup qualifier on Sunday against Slovakia.

Considering Forster’s injury was only minor, it has given Alex McCarthy a very good opportunity to impress new England boss Sam Allardyce. McCarthy sees himself called up to the England set-up for the first time since 2013 as his teammate’s replacement.

Given Forster’s worrying injury history, it’s a big relief to Saints fans that the big man will be between the sticks for the clash at the Emirates next Saturday.
