For the first Friday Night Football of the season, Southampton travel to Old Trafford to face a star-studded Manchester United side.
There have been many changes at United this Summer – Jose Mourinho took the Man United hot-seat and along with him came Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly. There are some mouth-watering names in that list and Saints will have a very tough task to overcome if they want to leave Manchester with a positive result.
However, Saints do possess some stars of their own; Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte are one of the best centre-back pairings in the league.
Recent trips to United have been very successful ones for Southampton – out of the last three visits, Saints have come away with two wins and a draw. The most memorable win coming in the 2015/16 season, when Charlie Austin came off the bench to score the winner on his debut for the club.
Without further ado, here’s my combined line-up between Manchester United and the Saints.
