According to the French media outlet Europe Sport 1, Southampton have been quick to act upon their interest in French free agent Jeremy Pied as they near a deal for the wide man.
The former OGC Nice player’s contract with the Ligue 1 outfit came to an end at the beginning of this month and he is now free to talk or move to any club.
Europe Sport 1 are now suggesting that Pied is on his way to the Premier League, with West Ham also on the case and weighing up a move for the 27-year-old.
The player is said to be currently training with his former club Lyon to keep up match fitness but its not looking to be his designated club for next season.
The new Southampton manager Claude Puel is certainly familiar with Pied as the two worked together at Puel’s former club OGC Nice. In this time, Puel helped and developed Pied’s game, turning the winger into a right-back.
Playing at right-back this season Pied made 33 appearances for Nice, averaging six defensive actions a game and only made three total defensive errors across the season, via Squawka.
Pied would add depth and versatility to the Saints side, which will be essential heading into European competition this season.
