With Claude Puel having been announced as Southampton’s manager today, Saints may look a little different when we lineup against Watford at St Mary’s on Saturday 13th of August.
The former Nice, Lyon and Monaco boss has had many people across France become very admirable of his style of play, with Puel favouring a high-press style – much like former Saints and current Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
The man who guided Nice from 17th to 4th on the 14th largest budget in the league likes to interchange between the 4-4-2 Diamond (Narrow) and the 4-3-1-2 formations. Both could fit the current squad very nicely, Saints have many players like James Ward-Prowse, Steven Davis and Dusan Tadic who can operate in many different positions across the midfield.
Along with a manager comes new signings, with Saints now on the lookout for replacements for Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane, who departed or Spurs and Liverpool respectively.
Here’s how Saints could lineup under Claude Puel in the 4-3-1-2 formation…
