According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle will only sell prized asset Georginio Wijnaldum for £30 million. With numerous clubs circling for the attacking midfielder – including Roma, Everton, and Southampton – the Tyneside club would like to sell him for more than the double the amount they brought him for from PSV – a reported £14.7 million.
The Magpies are not in a poor financial position, therefore, have no reason to offload Wijnaldum to bolster their bank balance, hence the hefty price.
It is believed the Dutch international would like a move back to the Premier League after Newcastle were relegated this season. Both Southampton and Everton could offer him this and he would no doubt be a fantastic signing for either team.
Wijnaldum scored 11 goals and got five assists in his maiden Premier League campaign and has 30 caps for his country. However, even though his quality is proven, the price tag of £30 million could be a stumbling block, with the Saints normally unwilling to spend so much on one player.
New Everton boss Ronald Koeman could look to move in for Wijnaldum as he looks to begin to strengthen his new squad with his fellow countryman as soon as he possibly can but, for the price, the Dutchman will ponder the move.
