Saints striker Graziano Pelle has picked up a knee injury whilst training with the Italian national team, according to Football Italia. It is unknown how serious the knock is and whether it will keep the big front man from playing at Euro 2016.
The site claimed that Pelle was only removed from the session as a precaution which would be good news for the Azzurri as a long-term injury would damage their chances at this summer’s tournament, with their current striking options not as strong as in recent years.
However, the fact that it was severe enough for him to be taken off the pitch means that it could be bad news for him and his nation.
The Southampton target man was handed the number nine shirt by manager Antonio Conte, indicating that he will start up front for Italy at the Euro’s.
Both Italians and Southampton fans alike will look on with interest at the unfolding situation. A good performance in France could boost interest in Pelle, with rumours already abound that he could move away from England in the coming transfer market, back to Italy.
Whether Pelle will be at St Mary’s next season is unclear, however, all those associated with the club will hope that the injury is only minor.
