Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has praised new boy Charlie Austin, after the Englishman’s goal gave Saints a famous victory over Manchester United.
Speaking to the Southern Daily Echo , Wanyama labelled his new teammates winner as ‘amazing’.
It’s unbelievable, you come for a first game, you come off the bench and then you get a goal like that – it’s just amazing.
Wanyama has also stated how good he believes Austin can be for Southampton.
He (Austin) will be very important to the team. He brings goals and his work ethic is very good for the team.

The Kenyan also said how happy he was with the performance of the whole team and the work rate that earned them this ‘unbelievable’ result.
We knew we can get something here and we have a good team spirit together today as a team. It was an unbelievable result. They have some good players. We knew it was going to be tough, we had to fight. We won the fight, so we are really pleased.
The 24-year-old also spoke how pleased he is with the win, and how happy he is that Southampton’s gameplan worked.
We knew we had won here before and we knew if we came here and put our own performance and our philosophy here, we are going to get the result. That’s what we did. We played our own way and we won the battle. It’s very special, beating United at Old Trafford is not easy. We’re really pleased with the result.

Wanyama signed for Southampton in July 2013 from Scottish champions Celtic for a fee thought to be £12.5m. He has been consistently linked with a move away from St. Mary’s since the summer, with Tottenham seeming like his preferred destination. However, no move has yet arisen, and Wanyama’s impressive performances for Saint have continued on nonetheless
